Some Manitoba parks to remain unavailable for camping this summer

Some campgrounds in Manitoba will not be reopening this summer due to wildfire damage in 2025.

Manitoba campers will continue to feel the impacts of last summer’s devastating wildfires during the 2026 camping season.

On Monday, the Manitoba government announced restoration plans for Nopiming Provincial Park are being finalized.

Due to the cleanup and restoration of areas affected by wildfires, visitors can expect the following changes for the 2026 summer season:

• Tulabi Falls Campground will partially reopen for the May long weekend. Though all yurts will be available, the group use and walk-in backcountry sites will stay closed.
• Black Lake Campground will be closed for nightly and seasonal camping.
• Backcountry water routes will stay closed. Routes will reopen in stages as portages and campsites are cleaned up.
• Bird Lake and Beresford Lake campgrounds are expected to reopen.

As for Whiteshell Provincial Park, the Mantario Trail will remain closed for summer 2026, as significant work and cleanup are required in the area.

According to the province, about half of the trail was burned, including the backcountry campsites at Caribou, Marion, Peggy, Alice, Olive, Moosehead and Mantario lakes.

Restoration plans are being prepared.
