Two drivers are facing careless driving offences after Winnipeg police said they clocked a vehicle travelling over 200 km/h in an apparent street racing incident. According to the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS), the Air1 helicopter spotted two vehicles just before 1 a.m. on May 16 appearing to race at excessive speeds along Chief Peguis Trail. “One of the vehicles was estimated to be travelling in excess of 200 km/hr. and the incident was captured on video,” police said in a news release. Air1 was able to track both vehicles to a home, where they were parked. Ground units then arrived on scene, issuing notices for racing and careless driving to the registered owners. The allegations have not been tested in court.
