Help is set to arrive in a Manitoba community that’s still under water after a weekend drenching. The Municipality of Minitonas-Bowsman posted on its Facebook page Wednesday that two crews from the Office of the Fire Commissioner of Manitoba and Christian Aid Ministries Canada are set to help residents pump out basements and clean up from flash flooding. Manitoba Hydro crews are also expected in the community on Wednesday to continue to inspect electrical equipment. The rural community of about 450 was without power for days after the storm hit overnight Monday. Flooded-out roads made it difficult for Hydro crews to access the community. However, the Crown corporation said Tuesday power had been restored to about 265 customers. Minitonas was hit with about six inches of rain in a matter of a few hours early Monday morning. The soggy onslaught caused overland flooding, ruptured a gas line, knocked out cell service and compromised water quality. The community is still under a state of emergency and a boil water advisory as it continues to clean up.
