The Manitoba government has announced $235 million to build an interchange at the intersection of the Perimeter Highway and McGillivray Boulevard, with construction expected to start in early spring. The infrastructure project is intended to improve safety, the movement of goods, and support the city’s continued growth, according to a Friday news release. The interchange will include a four-lane divided highway and a two-lane undivided overpass, the province said, adding the project is excepted to be completed by 2030. A portion of the funds will be used to acquire land necessary for the project, as well as engineering, design, utility relocation, and construction. Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor previously told CTV News the property acquisition would affect 19 property owners. A provincial spokesperson told CTV in a statement that the province has received possession of all required lands for the project as of Jan. 2. Settlements continue to be negotiated with affected landowners, the province added.
