Colleen Bready’s forecast: Snow and showers across Manitoba to start spring

The first few days of spring in Manitoba have been much like the final days of winter: mild but unstable weather. Expect more of the same this week.

A low pressure system passing over Manitoba on Monday is bringing snow, flurries or showers to much of the province.

Morning snow in the northwest has ended, while snow will continue in central regions.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) said the highest snowfall, around five to 10 centimetres, is expected from Norway House to Island Lake. The weather agency said precipitation will be brief, but moderately intense.

Some northern regions will see two to four centimetres of snowfall, while the sun will shine on areas furthest north on Monday.

Meanwhile, southern regions, including Winnipeg, south of the low’s track, will be grazed by flurries or showers, with temperatures rising well above the freezing mark.

A few flurries or showers are also forecast across northwestern Ontario on Monday.

ECCC said another, less intense system will pass through central and eastern areas in Manitoba on Monday night through Tuesday.

Yet another round of snow will likely start to move into southwestern Manitoba on Tuesday night before spreading across the south, including to Winnipeg, on Wednesday.
