After an unseasonably mild September, there is a chill in the air to start the month of October on Thursday in Manitoba. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, a cold front sweeping across the prairies is ushering cooler air into the region. The crisp air is accompanied by strong and gusty northwest winds across Manitoba and northwestern Ontario, bringing our recent stretch of warm weather to an abrupt end – for now. Temperatures across southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario will only reach between 10 C and 13 C this afternoon. That said, those temperatures are much closer to normal for early October. Most areas on either side of the provincial border will see a mix of sun and cloud, including Winnipeg. The sun will shine the brightest in Brandon, Dauphin and the rest of the southwest. Daytime highs across Northern Manitoba will be held to single digits Thursday. Central regions, including Norway House and Island Lake, will see showers this afternoon, while regions further north will be cloudy with a lower chance of a shower or two. Surface high pressure will clear the sky over much of Manitoba Thursday night, except for eastern areas that could see showers, including Berens River and Poplar River. Temperatures will rebound on Friday, heading back up into the mid- to upper teens. They will remain there through the first weekend of October before climbing even higher next week.
