Colleen Bready’s Forecast: Cold air sticking around in Manitoba

We’ve now crossed over into the second half of June, but it will not feel that way on Wednesday in Manitoba.

A cut-off low, detached from the jet stream, continues to stubbornly spin around northern Manitoba, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

The weather agency says it continues to send cold air into southern Manitoba.

North winds will be stronger and gustier in Winnipeg and the southeast than in Brandon and the southwest.

That said, daytime highs will be warmer in the southeast Wednesday, reaching the low 20s, while temperatures will be held to the unseasonably cool upper teens in the southwest.

ECCC said scattered showers or non-severe thunderstorms will develop in the south Wednesday afternoon, then wind down this evening.

Meanwhile, cloudy, rainy conditions will persist for parts of northern Manitoba Wednesday, including Gillam and Tadoule Lake.

The weather agency said temperatures along the Hudson Bay coastline will hover around the freezing mark for the next few days. Snowflakes may mix with showers. Freezing drizzle is possible Thursday.

Drier, sunnier and warmer temperatures around 14 C are expected for areas further south into central Manitoba Wednesday.

Soggier skies are expected in northwestern Ontario, with showers likely. Thunderstorms can’t be ruled out either.

Quiet, clearing conditions Wednesday night across southern Manitoba will lead to sunshine on Thursday.
