Manitoba weather: Another wave of snow coming

It is a new year, but the same weather pattern that sent out 2025 continues Friday.

As we’ve already seen over the last few days, Environment Canada said another wave of snow is spreading Friday from Alberta, southeast through Saskatchewan, and into southern Manitoba.

The first of the snow to reach Manitoba will arrive Friday afternoon in the southwest, before spreading to Winnipeg and the southeast by late this evening or overnight.

Snowfall should wind down in the southeast on Saturday morning, before partial sunshine by the afternoon. But as the sky brightens up, temperatures will fall during the day.

Forecast snowfall amounts are 2-4 cm. Consider that the warmup for a more substantial snowfall on the way the first weekend of 2026.

The weather agency said a swath of 5-10 cm will spread across southern Manitoba on Sunday.

Meanwhile, it will be a sunny Friday afternoon across northwestern Ontario before light snow arrives overnight.

Much of northern Manitoba will see a mix of sun and cloud Friday, except for communities furthest north, where flurries are expected.

No cold warnings are in effect, but the north will be contending with strong and gusting northwest winds Friday afternoon, helping to generate wind chill values in the -30s.
