As many folks continue to recover from a severe weather outbreak earlier this week, Thursday will be a soggy, windy and cool day across Manitoba. According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), we’re in for unsettled, cool and showery conditions in the south over the next few days, thanks to a low that has stalled over the northeast. ECCC has issued a rainfall warning (yellow) for the northeast, including Churchill, Gillam, Shamattawa, Island Lake and Thompson. With the low parked over the region, the weather agency warns as much as 30-50 mm of rainfall is expected by Friday morning, with another 20-30 mm by Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will also fall Thursday afternoon in most northeastern communities. Back in the south, a few scattered, intermittent showers will move through the region Thursday afternoon into the evening. There is also a risk of non-severe thunderstorms during that time frame. Daytime highs will be unseasonably cool in the mid to upper teens, with strong and gusty northwest winds. Showers and cool conditions will also stretch east into northwestern Ontario. If you’re heading to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers home opener this evening at Princess Auto Stadium, northwest winds should diminish considerably by kickoff, but dress warmly and be prepared for a possible shower or two.
