The holiday season might be over, but the Assiniboine Park Conservancy is giving people something to celebrate. The Conservancy is launching its “We Are Winter Celebration” this weekend at Assiniboine Park. The event will provide guests with an array of free family-friendly outdoor activities and will be hosted in the vicinity of the Riley Family Duck Pond. Some of the fun includes taking a spin on an ice bike; winter activity rentals including kicksleds, toboggans, skates, and snowshoes; cross-country skiing; skating lessons; and guided snowshoe tours. Visitors can also play fun games like cornhole or box hockey and listen to DJ GeNie spin tunes on Saturday and Sunday. The fun kicks off on Friday afternoon with a slew of special programming. There will be product sampling with FullGeek BrewLab, live fiddle and accordion music, performances by the Ivan Flett Memorial Dancers, and kids’ crafting stations. On Saturday there will be an outdoor movie screening of “Frozen 2,” and horse-drawn sleigh rides will be available for $6 for ages three and up (free for children under two). Sunday will feature a screening of “Happy Feet,” as well as TeePee Storytelling. The activities run Friday, Jan. 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 10 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some of the activities require pre-registration.
