Hockey fans in Windsor are feeling like Christmas came early this year, with some of the game’s top prospects in the region this week to show their skills. The WFCU Centre is playing host to the World Junior Summer Showcase, featuring talent from Canada, Sweden, the United States and Finland. For many players, it’s a chance to crack the final roster ahead of the IIHF World Junior Championship in Alberta later this year. “They’re going to dominate,” youngster Brody said about Canada’s shot at winning the tournament. On Wednesday night, hundreds of fans rolled into the WFCU Centre to watch Canada in their first of three friendly matches this week. For Windsor’s Keith Saby, this week’s play serves as a preview to one of his favourite hockey tournaments of the year. “I love it because that’s my favourite tournament to watch, you know, these guys are trying to get to the NHL, and they’re still going for it, so it’s great hockey,” Saby told CTV News. Saby plans to watch all of Canada’s games while they’re in his home city. Canada fell 5-3 to Sweden and will play Finland on Thursday, before a match against the United States on Saturday.
