The City of Windsor announced the completion of significant improvements at Wilson Park and continued progress on the transformative Reimagined Adie Knox Herman Recreation Complex project. Over the past several years, Wilson Park at 700 McEwan Avenue has undergone a series of major new upgrades, including a playground, a splash pad, sports courts, and a batting cage. More recently, the parkland has received new asphalt pathways, lighting infrastructure, and drainage improvements, with new parking area and driveway extensions expected to be completed by fall 2026. “As extreme weather becomes more frequent and costly for Canadian communities, projects like this show what real climate resilience can look like. We congratulate the City of Windsor on this exciting project completion that will protect critical infrastructure while giving residents a space they’ll enjoy for generations to come,” said Tim Tierney, Federation of Canadian Municipalities president. Drainage improvements The drainage improvements include Low Impact Development (LID) features that aim to enhance stormwater management measures by strengthening climate resilience and to help protect local infrastructure. These improvements support groundwater recharge, improve water balance, reduce the risk of sewer overflows and basement flooding, and create additional usable green space by reducing the need for a stormwater pond. The drainage and site resiliency improvements were carried out in part with $776,000 dollars in funding from the Government of Canada through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund (GMF) Local Leadership for Climate Adaptation initiative). Adie Knox upgrades The Reimagined Adie Knox Herman Recreation Complex is a cornerstone project within the City’s ongoing investment in parks and recreation infrastructure. City officials say it aligns with Windsor’s long-term commitment to creating vibrant, accessible, and sustainable community spaces throughout the city. Once complete, the revitalized facility and enhanced park amenities will provide modern recreational opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities while strengthening Wilson Park’s role as a community gathering place.
