The Lord Selkirk Bridge in Wallaceburg has reopened to vehicle traffic ahead of schedule after repairs to address a mechanical issue were completed sooner than expected. The bridge had been closed to motorists for safety reasons while crews worked to resolve the problem. Municipal officials had previously anticipated reopening the bridge on Sept. 25. During the closure, the municipality also took advantage of the detour period to remove abandoned railway tracks along McNaughton Avenue and repave the roadway. Although the bridge has reopened to vehicles, it remains inoperable for marine traffic that requires the bridge spans to open.
