Residents in Montreal’s McGill Ghetto neighbourhood are dealing with the messy aftermath of a water main break on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Montreal fire department (SIM), the incident occurred just after 4 p.m. on Aylmer Street near Milton Street. Firefighters say water poured into the street, flooding the area and seeping into nearby basement apartments. Resident Matheus Pessoa, whose home was not affected, said he saw the moment the water main broke. “It just cracked open. It was like ‘pshhh,’ overflowing, everything,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s sewer water, or what kind of water is it, but it was just very, very strong coming out and then it flooded the entire Aylmer Street, and Prince Arthur [Street] too. People couldn’t cross the street. It was crazy.” Emergency crews managed to cap off the leak by 6:30 p.m.
