Stormy start to Wednesday brings heavy rain, strong winds to Windsor-Essex

A turbulent mix of early‑morning showers, dropping temperatures and strong winds are expected in Windsor-Essex this morning as an active weather system moves through the region today.

There is a rainfall warning in effect with a series of low pressure systems leading to significant rainfall across parts of southern Ontario.

Environment Canada says early showers will taper off this morning before returning later on, bringing a risk of thunderstorms and rainfall amounts between 15 and 25 mm. Winds will shift to the northwest and strengthen through the afternoon, reaching 40 km/h with gusts up to 60 km/h.

Despite an early high near 17 C, temperatures will fall sharply, dipping to around 4 C by the afternoon.

The unsettled conditions continue into tonight and Thursday will offer a break from the wet weather, with a mix of sun and cloud early on before becoming sunny later in the morning.

Another round of unsettled weather is expected Friday as clouds dominate the sky with a 60 per cent chance of rain or snow moving into the region.
