St. Clair College is formally teaming up with the Canadian military to help more veterans and their families transition into campus life. The college and H.M.C.S. Hunter have signed onto a national consortium – Canadian Military, Veteran and Family Connected Campus Consortium (CMVF3C). CMVF3C aims at making post-secondary schools more accessible to military members veterans and their families. The agreement focuses on sharing resources, building support networks and helping those leaving the armed forces move into education — and eventually civilian careers. The agreement also connects St. Clair with other colleges universities and federal partners working on the same goal. Lt.-Cmdr. Chris Elliott with H.M.C.S. Hunter is pleased with solidifying agreement which will enhance the ability of members of the Canadian Armed Forces to fulfill academic pursuits, be actively on duty and serve the nation when naval deployment is necessary. “It [the partnership] enables that that clear pathway - that articulation – that if somebody has, conflict between their service and their studies,” said Elliott. “We’re committed to working together to make sure that they have success.” Officials say it’s about recognizing the unique challenges military-connected students face and making sure they’re not navigating college life alone.
