A Nova Scotia RCMP officer has been charged with criminal harassment following an investigation by the Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT). Halifax Regional Police contacted SiRT about an active RCMP member allegedly harassing a woman known to him on July 26. Following an investigation, SiRT director Erin Nauss said there are “reasonable and probable grounds” to believe Const. Wael Musleh committed criminal offences between May 30 and July 26 while on and off duty. Musleh was charged with criminal harassment and breach of trust by a public officer on Thursday, according to a news release from SiRT. Musleh will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Dec. 4. In a separate statement, Meaghan Stewart, director of administration and personnel with the Nova Scotia RCMP, called the charges “troubling” and noted Musleh has been suspended without pay. “The RCMP treats all allegations of misconduct with the utmost seriousness and expects its employees to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity and accountability,” Stewart said. “An internal code of conduct investigation has been initiated and is ongoing. Cst. Musleh’s duty status will be continuously assessed throughout both the court and internal processes.” SiRT is responsible for investigations into all matters involving death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence that may have arisen from the actions of police officers in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
