A new board game designed in London celebrates all things “East of Adelaide”. Called London-opoly: East of Adelaide Edition, the game turns the tables on the once negative EOA nickname for east London by celebrating its unique businesses and community touchpoints. 6 years after moving to 100 Kellogg Lane, L.A. Mood Comics and Games spent months designing the game to mark its anniversary. The classic Monopoly board has been transformed with street names, schools, and businesses from east London. “It was tough to pick all the street names and businesses that we were going to put on the board. It was very difficult and we apologize if your favourites didn’t make it on the board,” said Jamie Dean, Supervisor at L.A. Mood. “Maybe next year we’ll do another one and try to include some more places!” The game is a partnership with the London Children’s Museum, Anderson Craft Ales, Forked River Brewing Co., and Old East Village Business Improvement Area (BIA). The traditional Community Chest and Chance cards now contain a distinctly local flare. “You ate too much cheese from the Western Fair Market! Lose 1 turn to recover,” said Dean. The board also acknowledges recent decisions impacting the east end, including a square labelled “traffic jam”, and the Free Parking spot represented by the Old East Village BIA. “We wanted to give something back to our neighbourhood, and this is our little love letter,” Dean explained. Copies of London-opoly East of Adelaide Edition will be available to purchase at L.A. Mood’s store and website, as well as Anderson Craft Ales, Forked River Brewing Co., and the London Children’s Museum.
