A Windsor couple is tying the knot next to the Statue Of Liberty and the whole situation is being called a history-making moment. Les Dorgo and Sandra Maroszek first met in 2021 due to their mutual love of the augmented reality mobile game Pokemon Go. “There’s Pokemon you can only get if you travel and I happen to have one from pre-pandemic,” said Dorgo. “And I was like, ‘Oh, I’ll meet up with you. Let’s make it a date.’” They describe their proposal as unorthodox. “She actually asked me on February 29th,” said Dorgo. Last year, she reached out to Pokemon attempting to win an engagement package. “I did a very long write up with pictures of me and Les traveling all over the world playing Pokemon. I mean, we’ve been to France playing Pokemon, Mexico, all over the States. Unfortunately, we weren’t selected for the engagement couple, but clearly they had bigger plans in mind,” said Maroszek. She was right. “They reached out to us about six weeks ago with this opportunity and it’s just been a whirlwind since then,” said Maroszek. On Friday, the pair will exchange vows in New York. “We’ll have Manhattan in the background and then the Statue of Liberty off to our left hand side as we’re performing the ceremony, we’re doing our vows. It’s going to be a beautiful backdrop,” said Dorgo. There’s still work to be done before the big day, and what is a Pokemon wedding without Pikachu? “Pikachu is making a guest appearance so our guests can take photos of Pikachu, and then the rest is really going to be a surprise. We’re letting the Pokemon team let their imaginations run wild,” said Maroszek.
