Man faces impaired, dangerous driving charges after cyclist injured in hit-and-run: police

Windsor police have charged a 30-year-old man with impaired and dangerous driving after a cyclist was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash.

Officers responded to a crash in the 2800 block of Howard Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. on Friday.

Through investigation, officers say they learned that a vehicle travelling northbound at a high rate of speed struck a bicyclist.

Police say the driver failed to remain at the scene and fled prior to police arrival.

The victim was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers later located the suspect vehicle on Edinborough Street. The vehicle had a smashed front windshield and damage to the front grille.

When interacting with the driver, officers say they saw signs of alcohol impairment, including a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech, and difficulty maintaining his balance. The suspect was arrested and taken to Windsor Police headquarters, where he failed a breath test.

The 30-year-old man has been charged with:

• Dangerous operation causing bodily harm

• Failure to stop after accident resulting in bodily harm

• Operation while impaired causing bodily harm

• Operation while impaired

• Leave accident scene resulting in bodily harm
