Formal Land Agreement for Ojibway National Urban Park agreed to in principle

A Formal Land Agreement for Ojibway National Urban Park has been agreed to in principle with Parks Canada.

What this means is an agreement has been written; however it is not yet legally binding.

The agreement secures the area for conservation and public enjoyment. City council unanimously endorsed the agreement on Monday. Final approval is now up to Parks Canada.

Community support for the National Urban Park has been overwhelming. Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens is enthusiastic that the long process will be done later this year.

“This ought not to be a difficult task now, and certainly Parks Canada has been really great to work with,” he said.

“We’ve had some wonderful partners around the table. There’s a good spirit of cooperation, and I expect we can get this done in the coming months and realize that dream that we’ve had for many years now of creating the Ojibway National Urban Park.”
