Detroit to manufacture next generation Dodge Durango

Windsor is not getting the next generation Dodge Durango at the Windsor Assembly Plant, however Stellantis said Windsor was not forgotten.

There was optimism that Windsor would be the manufacturers of the next generation Dodge Durango, but Stellantis has announced Detroit as the new home.

“Everyone’s in a panic,” said Greg Layson, digital and mobile editor at Automotive News Canada.

“Everyone’s accusing Stellantis of ‘moving jobs to America.’ Look, all of these folks who aren’t working on the third shift in Windsor are still not going to be working the third shift in Windsor, until there’s a product there. So, can we all just step back, take a breath? As far as I understand it, nothing has been pulled from Windsor at this point.”

Stellantis never explicitly said the Durango would be made at the Windsor Assembly Plant. However, the plant is able to produce midsized SUVs, leading to industry forecasters to believe Windsor would get it.

Stellantis confirmed the Windsor Assembly Plant has not been forgotten.

“I can 100 per cent confirm that there is no impact to our Canadian operations by the announcement that Antonio Carlos had made yesterday,” said Chris Feuell, brand chief executive officer for Chrysler.

“We have invested over $8.6 billion in our Canadian operations since 2022 and that includes Windsor, our Brampton assembly plant, and our NextStar Battery Plant to retool and also bring brand new products into production for our North American markets as well.”
