Concerned about a loved one? Windsor police detail options for mental health assessments

Windsor police are informing the public about what to do if you’re concerned about someone’s mental health.

Police say if you believe a family member or friend needs urgent mental health support, a Form 2 (Order for Examination) may help.

This process is about care and safety and does not result in criminal charges.

Officers say a Form 2, under the Ontario Mental Health Act, allows police to bring a person to hospital for a mental health assessment when legal criteria are met.

How it works:

1.Download, print and fill out the form by searching “Order for Examination” at forms.mgcs.gov.on.ca

2.Bring the filled-out form to the Windsor-Essex Ontario Court of Justice, located at 200 Chatham St. E. (Mon.-Fri., 9-11 a.m., 2-4 p.m.)

3.A Justice of the Peace may review and sign the form.

4.Bring the signed form to Windsor Police Service headquarters, located 150 Goyeau St.

If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
