Police dismantle clandestine drug lab on Vancouver Island

Mounties say they dismantled a clandestine drug lab on a rural property on Vancouver Island last week, seizing synthetic drugs and a firearm in the process.

Several agencies, including the RCMP Federal Policing Integrated Border Enforcement Team and the Emergency Response Team, executed the search warrant in the 3800 block of Trailhead Drive in Jordan River on Sept. 17.

About two kilograms each of methamphetamine and MDMA and a loaded handgun were seized during the search, according to police.

“Drug production and trafficking are often linked to broader criminal networks that pose serious risks to public safety,” Insp. Peter Koster with Federal Policing Pacific Region said, in a news release issued Wednesday.

“By dismantling this lab and seizing these items, we’ve not only removed dangerous substances from our community but also struck a blow against the organized crime groups that profit from them.”

The release did not mention any arrests or charges and police say the investigation is ongoing.
