Woman who filmed bizarre bus fight ‘never taking’ that route again

Bus attack witness comes forward A bus passenger who filmed a bizarre fight on a New Westminster bus is speaking out about what happened.

A woman whose video of an ugly confrontation on a city bus went viral last month says she’s avoided taking the same route ever since.

Oyebola Adeola was riding the 106 bus through New Westminster two weeks ago when a bizarre altercation erupted in front of dozens of riders.

Footage she recorded on her cellphone shows a woman apparently spitting at a man in a wheelchair, then being pushed into a chair by a younger woman and slapped in the face.

She then freezes and slowly tips over onto the floor.

The video, which was widely shared after being posted on Twitter, doesn’t show how the fracas started, but Adeola believes it began with a dispute over empty seats.

“I was surprised,” Adeola said. “That’s actually my first time seeing that.”

Another short clip shows the older woman sitting on the ground and apparently blocking the man in the wheelchair from exiting the bus.

She yells that someone is calling the police, and appears to gesture toward the bus driver.

New Westminster police are investigating the incident, but have not released any details about the case.

Adeola said the fight was unsettling to watch, and she has no plans to get back on the 106 bus again.

“Lately I’ve been going to Metrotown to get my bus. I’m never taking the bus from New West again,” she said. “I feel like anything can happen.”
