Woman charged as police continue to investigate Vancouver stabbings, assaults

A woman has been charged with one count of assault as police continue to investigate a series of apparently random assaults in Yaletown.

A woman has been charged as Vancouver police continue to investigate a series of apparently random, daylight assaults in Yaletown last week.

A suspect who was arrested over the long weekend was charged with one count of assault Tuesday, the Vancouver Police Department said in an update.

Tamara Hamelin, 35, remains in custody, police said. She is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, according to online records.

Police were called to the seawall near David Lam Park around 7:30 a.m. on Friday for reports that several people had been stabbed and located three people with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the VPD.

Four more people have since contacted police to report being assaulted in the apparent spree, “including another stabbing victim, a person who was physically assaulted, and two others who were not physically injured,” police said in an update over the weekend.

Five of the victims are men and two are women, and their ages range from 23 to 59 years old, VPD said.
