Police say a woman was arrested in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside on Monday, not long after she allegedly grabbed a baby by the hair while demanding money from his mother. The Vancouver Police Department issued a news release Tuesday afternoon detailing the incident, in which a mother was walking her baby in a stroller on East Hastings Street near Princess Avenue at around 4:40 p.m. when the woman approached and the altercation ensued. Police said no one was injured during the alleged assault. According to the VPD, a woman matching the description of the assault suspect was captured on CCTV cameras immediately after, approaching a man and punching him in the face. The VPD said it was notified about a woman matching the same description attempting to steal alcohol from a nearby liquor store about 10 minutes later. “Police attended and arrested the suspect. She was taken to jail and then to hospital for a pre-existing condition. Police are requesting assault charges and a warrant be issued upon her release from hospital,” the VPD said, in the release. Police said these incidents remain under investigation.
