Vancouver police search for driver after hit-and-run crash causes ‘life-altering injuries’

Police in Vancouver are searching for the driver of an SUV that reportedly struck a senior who was rushed to hospital with what investigators described as “life-altering injuries.”

Police say the driver fled the scene of the hit-and-run collision in the Fairview neighbourhood Wednesday morning.

A 68-year-old man was crossing Oak Street at 6^th Avenue just after 9:15 a.m. when he was hit by a white GMC Yukon, the Vancouver Police Department said in a news release Friday.

The vehicle, believed to have been manufactured between 2007 and 2014, was last seen heading south on Oak Street toward Broadway, police said.

“We believe there were bystanders who might have witnessed the hit and run or who have vehicle dash-cam footage from the area,” Const. Megan Lui said in a statement. “Investigators are asking them to contact police.”
