Vancouver charity helps parents learn lifesaving skills for babies

A Vancouver charity is helping new parents learn potentially lifesaving first aid skills they might not otherwise be able to afford.

BabyGoRound recently hosted a first aid workshop for parents and caregivers, led by Surrey firefighter and instructor A.J. Granger-Brown.

The session focused on infant choking and emergency response techniques for new moms and dads.

“The scariest sound in the world for a parent is no sound at all from the little ones,” said Granger-Brown.

“That should send off the alarm bells that maybe something is going on.”

BabyGoRound is known for providing baby gear and essentials to families in need. The organization told CTV News parents have been eager for affordable learning opportunities.

“I think the number one thing that people have asked is, ‘When is the next workshop and when can we get together and do another one?’” said Beata Si, the charity’s program co-ordinator.

“Programs like this are invaluable for new parents who can’t afford to take a full program or the child-care alone,” said Granger-Brown.
