Suspicious death investigation launched after body found at Vernon Winter Carnival office

Police in the North Okanagan are asking for help as they investigate a suspicious death discovered at the Vernon Winter Carnival office last week.

A body was found inside the office at 3401 35th Ave. on April 9, the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.

Police did not share the identity of the deceased, nor any details such as age or gender.

“A determination of criminality has not been made at this time,” said Const. Chris Terleski, in the release.

“The circumstances surrounding the person’s death are considered suspicious in nature and we are reaching out to the public for information that may help advance our investigation.”

Police were called to the office around 8:45 p.m. on the date the body was discovered. They’re now asking for dash cam video recorded along 35th Avenue between 33rd and 35th streets between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. on April 9.

“Footage captured in that area at that time may be valuable to the investigation,” the release reads.

Anyone who has video should call Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171 and reference file number 2026-5597, police said.
