Suspect charged with manslaughter 1 week after Maple Ridge homicide

One week after a fight inside a Maple Ridge home left a 49-year-old man dead, his alleged killer has been charged.

Darcy Robb, 45, was charged with manslaughter on Monday in connection to the March 16 incident, police said in an update on the case Tuesday.

Robb had previously been charged the day after the fight with assault causing bodily harm, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, which is handling the case.

Robb remains in custody pending his next court appearance, IHIT said in its update.

Online court records indicate that appearance was scheduled to occur Tuesday morning in Port Coquitlam.

Police were called to the scene of the fight in the 23700 block of 110 Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on March 16. They arrived to find the victim—whose name police have not shared publicly—in medical distress.

He died at the scene, despite efforts to save his life, and a suspect was arrested.

Images from the scene showed police tape blocking the driveway of a home. The garage door appeared to be open, and an RCMP-branded tent and tarp had been set up in front of it, obscuring the view of the garage’s interior from the street.

Ridge Meadows RCMP said at the time that they believed the fight was “an isolated incident involving parties known to each other,” and IHIT said it did not believe the incident was related to gang activity or extortion.

“This investigation moved quickly and investigators continued to follow the evidence to understand the circumstances surrounding the death,” said Sgt. Freda Fong, of IHIT, in Tuesday’s news release.

“Through meticulous work with our policing partners and a thorough review of facts, we submitted additional evidence to the (B.C. Prosecution Service). IHIT would like to offer our condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased.”
