Surrey man in ‘state of numbness’ after winning $1M Lotto Max prize

A Surrey resident is $1 million richer after scoring big on a recent Lotto Max draw.

The lucky winner, referred to as Arthur H. in a media release from the B.C. Lottery Corporation, found out the good news while watching a Canucks game at home with his wife.

“We’re both Canucks fans,” he said, as quoted in the release. “I got up during a break to check my ticket (on the BCLC app) and I thought ‘wow!’ I was in a state of numbness, so I wanted to check again just to make sure.”

He had won the Maxmillions prize from the Dec. 26 draw, and his wife didn’t realize how big the prize was at first.

“I went back to her and showed the ticket and asked, ‘What do we do now?’ She said it was only $1,000 and I replied with, ‘Honey, count the digits!’” Arthur recalled.

He said winning the lottery feels “awesome,” and plans to use the windfall to help his family.

The odds of winning a Maxmillions prize on a Lotto Max ticket are roughly one in 33 million.
