Eight vehicles have been impounded for a variety of dangerous driving offences in Richmond. Richmond RCMP’s Road Safety Unit stopped the vehicles on Sunday for excessive speeding, stunt driving and impaired driving. Some of the drivers were clocked going as fast as 121 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, and 136 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Speeding tickets carry a maximum fine of $483, with an excessive speeding offence resulting in a mandatory seven-day vehicle impound. Authorities said several of the drivers were repeat offenders, including one who has been stopped in the same spot three times since 2024. A motorcycle rider also had their bike impounded for stunt driving after being caught performing multiple wheel lifts and having a hidden rear licence plate. The bike is now facing a provincial inspection. “When drivers choose speed, impairment or stunting, they put themselves and others at risk,” Richmond RCMP said in a social media post. Please slow down, pay attention and make safe decisions behind the wheel." The drivers are on the hook for towing and impound fees, as well as increased ICBC premiums. Richmond RCMP said an additional 34 drivers were stopped Sunday for violations ranging from seatbelts, using an electronic device, speed, and vehicle defects.
