RCMP investigating fire at abandoned Coquitlam apartment building

Mounties in Coquitlam are appealing for witnesses as they investigate a suspicious fire at an apartment building that has been vacant since a blaze last year.

First responders were called to the scene at 727 North Road around 5 a.m. Sunday, according to officials.

“Upon arrival, crews encountered a significant fire involving multiple suites,” the City of Coquitlam said in a social media post about the fire, adding that more than two dozen firefighters had been deployed.

“The building has been unoccupied since a previous fire occurred almost exactly one year ago. Given the circumstances, today’s incident is being treated as suspicious, and an investigation is underway in coordination with appropriate agencies.”

On Tuesday, the Coquitlam RCMP confirmed it is investigating and asked anyone with information or video to call 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2025-31475.
