RCMP conduct re-enactments in deadly crash; intersection now back open

RCMP re-enacts crash that killed Coquitlam girl Mounties shut down a major intersection to re-enact a collision that killed a 13-year-old and injured a 6-year-old.

Coquitlam RCMP have been conducting re-enactments in a fatal collision which took the life of a 13-year-old girl in March.

“What we are doing here is just a partial re-enactment,” said Coquitlam RCMP Sgt. Quentin Frewing.

The re-enactments took place this Tuesday morning at Mariner Way and Riverview Crescent, with a police vehicle travelling north on Mariner at various speeds, while checking sight lines from inside the cruiser.

The fatality occurred when two vehicles collided at the intersection, and ended up striking a group of pedestrians on March 25.

The 13-year-old girl, Deborah Seol, was rushed to hospital, but could not be saved. A six-year-old boy was also injured.

The intersection was closed off for more than an hour this morning. RCMP said while re-enactments are not a rare occurrence, it’s a necessary tool to determine what happened, especially when an accident is as serious as this one.

“When the police show up on a scene, it’s after the collision has taken place. Our perspective is going to be different than what the involved people’s or driver’s perspective is, and doing a reenactment helps us get a clearer picture of what everyone saw at the time of the collision,” Frewing added.

RCMP could not provide any new information, and no charges have been announced.
