Update, March 4: Police said Wednesday that the driver and passenger have been identified and have spoken to police. Mounties thanked those who reached out for their help and said “no further action from the public is required.” The original story follows. Police in Prince George are asking the public to help identify an SUV in an investigation involving a young teen last week. A 13-year-old girl was reportedly walking toward a skate park on Blackburn Road South the afternoon of Feb. 27, when she was approached by a couple in a black Hyundai SUV. The couple is said to have offered the girl a ride several times, which she declined. They also allegedly circled the area where she was walking. Mounties say the teen was able to get away from the vehicle and call her parents for a ride home. “This young girl took exactly the right action in a situation that made her uncomfortable,” Cpl. Jennifer Cooper said in a news release Tuesday. “She created some distance and called for help. Police want to encourage parents to speak to their kids and youth about what to do when they don’t feel safe, and this is a great example of what actions to take.” The man in the SUV is being described as in his 40s, with dark hair and a beard. The woman, who also had a chihuahua with her, is believed to be of a similar age. Investigators have released surveillance video that captured the vehicle, in the hopes that someone will recognize it, or its occupants.
