Powell River resident Shannon T. was at the Chevron gas station on Joyce Avenue in Powell River, where she purchased a $5 “The Big Spin” ticket. That ticket would prove to be a big winner, earning Shannon a chance to head to the BC Lottery Corporation office in Vancouver and spin The Big Spin wheel for a big payday. “I was on my way to work,” said Shannon. “When I found out I won, I called my mom. I protected the ticket while at work by putting it into a rubber glove so it didn’t get wet!” With her family and BCLC staff on hand to watch, Shannon was able to spin the wheel with prizes ranging from $100,000 to $500,000 on June 4. The Big Spin wheel would land on the $125,000 space. “Crazy, exciting and fabulous,” said Shannon when asked how it feels to win. With her six-figure payday, she says she plans to complete home renovations, buy a new black car, and celebrate by having a nice dinner with her family. Shannon is the third person to win the Big Spin top prize and the second from Powell River. The first winner, a resident of Chase, won $275,000 on Feb. 20, and another Powell River resident won $400,000 on May 7.
