Police say speed, impairment may have caused deadly crash in Kelowna, B.C.

Mounties say speed and impairment likely contributed to a fatal crash Sunday night in Kelowna, B.C.

Police responded to the single-vehicle collision near the intersection of Highway 97 and Burtch Road at approximately 10:30 p.m.

The victim has been identified by investigators as a 43-year-old man who was living in Kelowna at the time.

Police are working with a collision reconstructionist to investigate what led to the collision, but said in a news release Monday that speed and driver impairment were likely factors.

Cpl. Steven Lang of the Kelowna RCMP detachment says bystanders came to the assistance of the driver, who ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

“If you have been affected by this incident and require support, please contact the detachment,” Lang said in a statement. “Our victim services team is available to provide compassionate and professional assistance during this difficult time.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has video from the scene is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.

“We offer our condolences to the family,” Lang added.
