Car fire in B.C. synagogue parking lot not suspicious or targeted: police

West Vancouver police say a car fire outside a local synagogue over the weekend “appears non-suspicious.”

There is no indication a car fire in the parking lot of a synagogue Sunday was criminal or targeted, according to the West Vancouver Police Department.

The vehicle was found ablaze around 6:30 a.m. outside of Har El Synagogue, and the flames were quickly extinguished, authorities said. No one was injured.

“There are no ongoing safety concerns related to this incident, and that the vehicle fire appears non-suspicious,” the West Vancouver Police Department said in an updated statement Sunday afternoon.

While the investigation is not complete, police said the evidence gathered thus far indicates the vehicle caught fire on Highway 1 and the driver pulled into the parking lot on Taylor Way.

“Investigators have determined that the incident is non-criminal in nature and that the synagogue was not targeted,” the statement from the department said.
