Couple allegedly recorded feeding bears on Cypress A Vancouver man who recorded people apparently feeding bears on Cypress Mountain feels his concerns are being ignored by authorities.

A Vancouver man who filmed a couple allegedly feeding bears on Cypress Mountain is calling on conservation officers to do something.

Robert Casey said he was wildlife watching on the mountain back in May when he saw an elderly couple pull up in an SUV and dump a bag of food, including what appeared to be sausages and dog chow, by the roadside.

“That night I saw both coyotes and a bear eating the food that they’d dumped,” Casey told CTV News.

Signs on the way up to Cypress make it clear that feeding wildlife is illegal and dangerous.

To his amazement, Casey said the same couple returned on consecutive nights to do the same thing – each time attracting animals to the popular tourist destination.

He eventually decided to record video of the couple to turn over to the authorities.

The concerned citizen claims he called the B.C. Conservation Officer Service, and that staff took his information and promised to follow up – a call he’s still waiting for months later.

“I have video footage, I’ve got licence plates, I’ve got everything they need but they have not established contact with me,” Casey said.

An acting inspector for the B.C. Conservation Officer Service said it isn't clear why the complaint wasn't followed up on, but that it had been filed to the wrong jurisdiction, which may have played a role.

Insp. Simon Gravel said the agency will be contacting the officers involved to figure out what happened, and will review Casey's complaint then contact him.

Casey said he doesn’t care whether the couple gets fined as long as they’re educated about the dangers of feeding wildlife.

He said he returned to the same spot in July to watch the Perseid meteor shower, and was anxious to find it was packed with people.

“They had no idea how close they were to a bear [living in] that area that’s been fed by human beings,” he said.
