Mounties seek cyclist victim of hit and run near Kelowna, B.C.

Mounties in British Columbia’s Okanagan region are searching for the victim of an alleged hit-and-run crash involving a cyclist and an SUV driver.

The West Kelowna RCMP says the collision happened at around 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the intersection of Westlake Road and Highway 97.

A red Hyundai Tucson was southbound on Westlake Road when it came to a stop near a cyclist at a red light, the RCMP detachment said in a news release Thursday.

“The driver began yelling at the cyclist, who was also stopped at the light, and then proceeded to advance his vehicle toward the cyclist aggressively, striking him and knocking him off his bike,” Const. Ginny Folster said in the release.

“Then the vehicle fled the area.”

Police are now asking the unidentified cyclist to come forward and speak with investigators. Any witnesses to the collision are also urged to contact police.

The cyclist is described as a white male, possibly between 17 and 20 years old, standing approximately 6’ tall with no facial hair.

He was wearing all black clothing and riding a black mountain bike or electric bike at the time of the altercation, police said.
