Metro Vancouver mountains open for the season

The North Shore Mountains are finally starting to open after receiving a big dump of snow this week.

Skiers and snowboarders in Mero Vancouver have a reason to celebrate this weekend – the North Shore mountains are opening for the season after enough snow finally started falling, and there’s more on the way.

Grouse Mountain opened for recreators on Friday and Cypress opened on Saturday, later than usual due to lack of snow.

“We had some snow in early November but the last week has brought about 40 centimetres, so we have been running our guns nonstop, which has allowed the team to open today,” Grouse Mountain spokesperson Emily Leak told CTV News. “We do have a discounted lift ticket rate due to the limited terrain.”

Visitors to local mountains are encouraged to check their respective websites for updates on which lifts and runs are open.

The bunny hill also opened on Mount Seymour Saturday, and the resort says snow continues to pile up and the rest of the terrain will open as soon as conditions allow.
