Man in ‘serious but stable’ condition as police respond to accidental shooting in Burnaby, B.C.

Mounties say a 39-year-old man was transported to hospital Wednesday night after police were called to investigate a report of an accidental shooting in Burnaby, B.C.

Officers responded to a condo building near the intersection of Douglas Road and Lougheed Highway just before 10:15 p.m.

A victim was found suffering injuries consistent with a gunshot wound, Cpl. Mike Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP said in an emailed statement Thursday.

“Emergency Health Services transported the man to the hospital, and he is currently in stable condition,” the police spokesperson added.

“Investigators have spoken to witnesses and neighbours and while it is early in the investigation, police do not believe there is any further risk to the public because of this incident.”

A spokesperson for B.C. Emergency Health Services says paramedics treated the victim on scene before transporting him to hospital in “serious, but stable condition.”

Police remained at the scene of the shooting Thursday morning and the investigation is ongoing.
