A 41-year-old man has been charged with assault with a weapon after police say he attacked a security guard in Vancouver. Officers responded to an emergency call from the on-duty security guard at a parkade near Cambie and Dunsmuir streets at 4:15 a.m. Saturday. Police say the uniformed guard was conducting routine patrols when he saw a man sleeping in the parking garage. When the guard told the man to leave, the suspect allegedly produced a short metal rod and began swinging it at him, damaging his vehicle. “The suspect then chased after the guard on a bicycle,” the Vancouver Police Department said in a news release Tuesday. Investigators say the suspect was found by police in another downtown parkade, near Cambie and West Georgia streets, and arrested. Police have identified the suspect as Clifford Carreon, of Surrey. Court records show he was also charged with mischief under $5,000, in addition to the assault charge. Carreon’s next scheduled court appearance is on Aug. 31.
