A relatively new music festival in our region is coming back for an end-of-summer hurrah. Oasis Music Festival, a celebration of Caribbean music and culture presented by Chystar Promotions, is making a return to Burl’s Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte on Saturday. Attendees can expect music like reggae, dancehall and Soca, along with flavours, culture and community from the Caribbean region. The event debuted last year to a sold-out crowd and staff promise an expanded version of the festival this year. “This festival was created to give Caribbean culture the stage it deserves,” said Patrick Shirley, CEO of Chystar Promotions “Oasis brings people together through music, creates opportunities for our community, and builds a festival that reflects the energy, diversity, and excellence of the Caribbean diaspora in Canada.” Headliners include several musicians making waves in the music industry. Masicka, a dancehall musician from Jamaica, is signed to Def Jam and his album Generation of Kings charted in more than 40 countries. For those craving reggae vibes, Sizzla, also from Jamaica, has been in the business since the 1990s and has earned a Grammy nomination in 2014 for his 70th studio album, The Messiah. Mr. Killa will bring Soca music to the event grounds, known for his hit “Run Wid It,” a song Drake was seen dancing to in a social media video after the Toronto Raptors advanced to the NBA Finals in 2019. Reggae artists Wayne Wonder and Gentleman will also hit the Oasis stage. Jahshii, a rising dancehall artist, is set get the crowd moving. Oasis Music Festival runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. General admission to the festival is $125 and VIP is $180. Tickets can be purchased on the Oasis Music Festival website.
