Man, 41, arrested after armed robbery in Abbotsford, B.C.

Police say a suspect has been arrested following an armed robbery at a gas station in Abbotsford, B.C.

Officers were called to the station in the 2000 block of Clearbrook Road shortly after 9:15 a.m. on March 17.

The suspect reportedly threatened an employee with a weapon before fleeing the scene with cash and merchandise.

The Abbotsford Police Department did not describe the type of weapon used, but a photo published by the department on social media showed a cannister of bear spray and several packages of cigarettes laid out on the hood of a police car.

Police say the staff member was not injured in the incident.

The suspect was located on a bicycle near the scene, police said in a statement Thursday.

“When the officer attempted to stop the suspect, he refused to stop—an unwise decision on his part,” the statement said.

“The pursuit concluded when the suspect ran out of roadway after the officer blocked his path with a police vehicle, forcing him off his bike.”

Investigators identified the suspect as 41-year-old Kevin Oakley, who is facing charges of robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and obstructing a peace officer.

All the stolen items were recovered and returned to the store, police said.
