IIO launch investigation into man’s death in Quesnel, B.C.

The provincial police watchdog is investigating the death of a man in Quesnel, B.C.

In a release issued Thursday, the Independent Investigations Office said it was investigating an incident that took place in the early hours of Monday, Oct. 27.

According to the release, officers were called to Carson Avenue shortly after 1 a.m. amid a report of an “unwanted person” who had been outside a building. Officers had spoken with the man before leaving the area, police said.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m., paramedics were called to the location and found the same man unresponsive. The man died at the scene.

The agency said it is looking to determine whether there is a connection between the death of the man and the action or inaction of the attending officers.

The IIO investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death in B.C., whether or not there is any allegation of wrongdoing by police.
