Homicide detectives investigate deadly house fire in Surrey, B.C.

A man was found dead inside a burning home in Surrey, B.C., on Monday morning.

Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead inside a burning home Monday in Surrey, B.C.

Police were called to the city’s Panorama Ridge neighbourhood shortly after 7 a.m. to assist firefighters who were battling a massive blaze a home in the 12700 block of 56 Avenue.

The Surrey Police Service says firefighters were searching the fully engulfed home for victims when they discovered the body of an adult male.

The police department’s serious crimes unit assumed conduct of the case before it was taken over by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team later Monday.

A statement from IHIT says the agency is working alongside Surrey police to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

The victim’s identity has not been released by investigators.

Police are asking anyone with information or surveillance video taken in the area between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. Monday to contact IHIT.

On Friday, a man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after an explosion and fire at a home in the nearby Cloverdale neighbourhood. The cause of the explosion and fire is still under investigation.
