A 12-year-old is recovering after being involved in an incident involving a vehicle and an e-scooter. Late Wednesday afternoon, North Vancouver RCMP responded to reports of a collision involving an e-scooter and a vehicle in the 3100 block of Colwood Drive. It is alleged the child was riding the e-scooter and struck a black Volkswagen Jetta and was later taken to hospital with minor injuries. “We are extremely thankful that no one was seriously hurt during this incident,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak in a statement for North Vancouver RCMP. Police later followed up with the child’s guardian, and several tickets were issued, including one to the guardian for allowing a person under 16-years-old to operate an e-scooter. North Vancouver RCMP say as the weather improves and days continue to get longer, there will be more mixed use on roads and it’s important everyone is aware of the rules of the road. “Police, first responders and medical professionals have been raising the alarm on the dangers of e‑scooters and the serious injuries they could cause," said Sahak. Along with an age minimum of 16, e-scooters cannot be driven on sidewalks, exceed a speed of 25 km/h, or be used without wearing an approved helmet. North Vancouver RCMP say officers will continue to educate, while holding parents and guardians responsible for incidents involving youth.
