Extortion-related shooting under investigation in Delta, police say

An incident where multiple shots were fired into a home in Delta early Sunday morning has been linked to an ongoing extortion investigation, according to authorities.

Police were called to a home in the 11200 block of 78B Avenue at 2:24 a.m., the Delta Police Department said in a statement.

“Officers arrived on scene and located shell casings and confirmed several shots into the residence,” the statement from the department said.

“The residence was occupied at the time of the shooting, but no one was injured. CCTV shows a suspect getting out of a white SUV and firing multiple shots into the residence before fleeing the scene.”

Police said the investigation has revealed the shooting is linked to extortion but did not provide details of how the motive was determined. The department said it will be working with a provincial task force dedicated to probing the rash of violent incidents targeting the South Asian community to see if the shooting is linked to other ongoing investigations.
